Microsoft Windows Movie Maker is by far the best free video editing software available at no cost. The program is already installed on newer computers which run a Windows OS so you don’t have to go through the trouble of downloading and installing it. The software has a real-time stream of what you’re editing and plenty of editing options, both advanced and simple. Also, due to the fact that Microsoft has created countless add-ons and upgrades, which are available online, this free video editing software is great for starters and those who are already accustomed to video editing.

Virtual Dub is an Open source program that is regularly updated by its creators. With two real-time streams displaying next to each other, there’s various editing options below and there’s hardly anything left out. Virtual Dub also comes with additional filters and more of these can be downloaded for the program, too. It lacks the editing power of a general purpose editor such as Adobe Premiere. 9) Movica : Movica is just a graphical user interface that uses some fine programs to edit movie files. A great deal of emphasis has been placed on keyboard shortcuts to make the job of editing easier. Basically, it is meant for editing the kind of movies that VirtualDub won’t. V-Dub is primarily an AVI editor, Movica will work on .wmv, .flv, .rm and .mpg files. This makes it more versatile than Virtualdub.

18) Mewa Film : It is a non-linear editing tool, called montage (this name might change) where video files are shown as a sequence of images layed off horizontally. The video files can then be assembled and cuted using intuitive actions as “drag and drop” and “rubberband selection”.
