Protocol - a set of rules that communicate digital transactions.
URL - Uniform Resource Locator - a universal addressing system - a system that every computer can understand to locate every document on the Internet. It is like a street address with specific meanings.

- http - hypertext transfer protocol - define the protocol for transfer: Web pages travel the Internet via HTTP. It is a set of rules that links documents or pages together.
- www - world wide web
- asafercompany.com - the registered domain name or the address of the server. Registering your own domain name gives your website a professional appearance.
  - .com - commercial sites
  - .edu - educational site like colleges and universities
  - .gov - government
  - .org - nonprofit organizations
  - .net - network sites such as service providers
  - many countries have their own two-letter code such as .au for Australia or .fr for France
- /aboutus/ - directory path name
- index.html - the file name
  - .html - hypertext markup language - rules to format text, add graphics, sound, video, determine colors and division of space and communicate with search engines.
  - .php - PHP programs

  - .css - cascading style sheets
