Dreamweaver Site Set Up
Dreamweaver is a great tool to use to develop websites.
Step 1: Set up your folders on your computer or flash drive
Set up a folder on your computer or flash drive to hold the website files. If you expect to have several clients or websites or classes then set up a folder for each entity.
For example:
- Client 1 folder > website folder
- Class 1 folder > website folder
The website folder is where you store ALL of the files used in the website.
All of the files for your website will be stored in this folder.
Step 2: Set up your Web Hosting
Set up your web hosting. You will need your login id and your password to set up Dreamweaver to ftp your files to your web hosting.
Step 3: Set up your Dreamweaver Site
- Open Dreamweaver
- On the top menu, select Site and click on Manage Sites
- You will see a list of all of the websites that you have set up.
- Select New (or Edit if you have already created a Dreamweaver Site)
- Select Site
- Enter the following information in the Local Info section:
- Site Name: A name to remember that this is your site. If you are a student and other people will be using the computer, keep it simple and enter your name.
- Local root folder: the folder where you stored your web files. This can be your computer or flash drive. Recommendation to store your files in a folder called website.
- Default images folder: this folder must be in your website folder and should be called images. If you have not already done so, please create a images folder.
- Click on Remote Info
- Set the Access: to FTP
- Enter the following information:
- FTP host: ftp.asafercompany.com
- Login: This will be the login information from your web hosting or your instructor
- Password: This will be the password from your web hosting or your instructor
- Click on Test to test the access. You should get the following message.
- If you did not get this message, you should review your FTP host and Login information and retype your Password.
