Website Expectations
A website is where the pretty pictures and the words and the technology all come together to help visitors find your website and enjoy using it. A website should be easy to use as well as informative. Visitors want to solve their problem and they want to solve it easily.
- They need information
- They want to make a purchase or a donation.
- They want to be entertained.
- They want to be part of a community.
Your goal is to make it easy for visitors to get the information that they need from your website.
- Can you figure out the purpose of the website by looking at the home page? Does it sell something or is it informational?
- Who is your target audience? What are their expectations? Does your visitor want to know the information you provide?
- Do you easily see how to navigate the page? Is the navigation consistent between pages?
- Is the page easy to read? What about font size, and contrast? Do you like the colors? Is the page interesting?
- How is the content of the website? Is the content correct and up-to-date?
- Is the page too long?
- Why would someone want to come back to your site?
You already have some preferences of things that you like and don't like. Let's start by looking at some websites. Review these websites and make notes of the things that you like or don't like. Sometimes being aware of the things you don't like can be very helpful.
