Type of Video

  1. Analog video - video footage on videotape, video disc or laser disc that must be converted to a digital format before it can be recognized by the computer.
    1. VHS - tapes and VCRs - low quality - not good for video editing.
    2. S-VHS - higher quality - can be used for video editing
    3. Hi-8 - highest quality analog video format
    4. Betacam SP - high quality, analog video format used bin professional video editing.
  2. Digital - video that is ain a number format that can be interpreted by the computer.
    1. use the DV standard
    2. Transferred to the computer using a high speed connector called a FireWire know as IEEE 1394 which is a Sony supported standard developed by Apple Computer.

  • DVD (Digital Versatile Disc also called Digital Video Disc) used to store digital video.

Apple's Quick Time Pro and Xilisoft's various video encoding software's. Xilisoft also makes DVD ripping software, which would allow you to 'record a portion of a DVD' to your hard drive.
